SUMMARY:AIA National | 2019 COD International Conference
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n  \nCommittee on Design\nThe AIA Committee on Design International Conference in Switzerland is second in a two-part conference series about innovation in architecture\, infrastructure\, and technology\, following the first in San Francisco and Silicon Valley this past Spring. The Fall 2019 program will explore innovation in all aspects of the built environment in Switzerland\, the country that ranks number one on global innovation indexes. \nSwitzerland is known for its superb infrastructure and richness of architectural objects. There will be tours of the nnovative works by Swiss architects like Le Corbusier\, Herzog & de Meuron\, and Peter Zumthor\, as well as work by renowned international firms\, including projects on Novartis\, Vitra\, and École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) campuses. An excursion to Mount Pilatus will provide a spectacular experience of the landscape and infrastructure Switzerland is famous for\, while an add-on tour will offer a stay at the mystifying Vals Therme Spa and visit to Zumthor’s Studio in Haldenstein. \nHow does the ‘slow and steady approach’ to innovation in Switzerland compare to the ‘disruptive approach’ of the American dream? This multi-city\, traveling-conference program will focus a new lens on the image of innovation.

SUMMARY:AIA National | AIA Blue Ribbon Panel Plan
DESCRIPTION:“Disruption\, Evolution\, Change”\n  \nOverview\nThis webinar will bring a broader AIA member audience together with some of the AIA members & staff that helped craft the AIA Blue Ribbon Panel report “Disruption\, Evolution\, and Change: AIA’s Vision of the Future of Design and Construction.” \nThe presenters will outline the report’s vision\, milestones to pursue over the next 30 years\, and recommendations for partner collaboration. AIA Board GAC chair Tim Hawk\, FAIA will challenge AIA members (especially component leaders) to lead the promotion of these recommendations through their state/local components. A Q&A session will follow. \n\nExplain the vision outlined in the BRP report to construction industry colleagues to help transform practice in the construction industry in a way that is holistic\, firm-wide\, data-driven\, and sustainable.\nUnderstand the changes to AIA policies – including the architectural standard of care and the definition of the protection of public HSW – that are needed to better align with AIA’s 2030 Commitment to sustainable design.\nUnderstand the collaboration needed with construction industry stakeholders to change existing policies – including the architectural standard of care and the definition of the protection of public HSW – that encourage architects\, builders\, our clients\, and others to make reducing the carbon footprint of our society a top priority.\nLead the promotion of the report’s recommendations – including changes to the architectural standard of care and the definition of the protection of public HSW – through conversations with construction industry colleagues.\n\n  \nLearn More\n  \nIn June 2018\, then-AIA President Carl Elefante\, FAIA commissioned the AIA Blue Ribbon Panel (BRP) on Codes & Standards to compose a report to address policy changes needed to better align with AIA’s 2030 Commitment to sustainable design. After a year of discussion\, debate\, review\, editing\, and feedback\, the BRP published the aspirational report “Disruption\, Evolution\, and Change: AIA’s Vision of the Future of Design and Construction”. The report offers a plan for how the AIA can best position itself and its members for the future of use and application of codes and standards. This report reflects not only the BRP’s thoughts but includes active input from AIA legal and contract documents experts\, knowledge leaders\, and government affairs experts. \nThe initiatives outlined are many and the effort will be far-reaching by recommending that AIA membership engage and embrace these recommended changes. AIA’s strategic partners & other related industry groups will become an essential resource to achieve targeted results. The enactment of the report’s recommendations could bring about tremendous change for members and their profession. \n

SUMMARY:AIA National | 2019 Women's Leadership Summit
DESCRIPTION:Overview \n  \nWhere Women Lead\nAIA Women’s Leadership Summit (WLS) is one of the only gatherings where women architects and designers are surrounded by other women in a professional setting. That creates a candid\, comfortable environment where women can contribute unique perspectives and facilitate conversations about challenges within the industry: Gaining respect on a construction site\, negotiating\, managing remote teams\, getting promoted\, and many others. \nThe first WLS began as a grassroots effort to bring together women principals of architecture firms\, women in leadership positions\, and women architects moving into leadership roles across the country for a‌n intense two-day summit focusing on leadership and design. Today\, the summit spans a diverse spread of career stages and seeks to support all women in the profession. \n  \nSummit goals:\n\nRaise the profile of women in the profession \nExplore new paths to leadership \nCreate a learning environment that supports the needs of multiple career stages in one event \nProvide a space for women architects to learn from one another

SUMMARY:AIA National | Post Disaster Safety Assessment Program Training
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nIntended for licensed architects\, engineers\, or certified building inspectors; this course certifies attendees as Building Evaluators in the nationally recognized Safety Assessment Program (SAP). The program is managed by Cal OES with cooperation from professional organizations\, including the AIA. It utilizes volunteers and mutual aid resources to provide professional engineers\, architects and certified building inspectors to assist local governments in safety evaluation of their built environment in an aftermath of a disaster.
