SUMMARY:AIAWS | October Lunch and Learn
DESCRIPTION:The Cold Hard Truth About What You Are Not Hearing\n\n\n*1 HSW / LU* \nThis seminar will examine the advancement of radiant heat and sound control for today’s construction\, and how it effects the tile and stone industry. Tile and stone have excellent heat conduction qualities\, but not as exceptional for sound abatement. Combining the two can be confusing\, and if not properly addressed. could cause failure in the tile or stone floor. However\, with proper details and specifications\, the combination of in floor heat and sound control could offer a long term\, maintenance free flooring assembly that adds great value to a project. \nLearning Objectives: \n1. Recognize two types of sound control ratings\, Sound Transmission Class (STC) and Impact Insulation Class (IIC).\n2. Distinguish between and IIC rating and a delta IIC contribution.\n3. Identify the components of a floor/ceiling assembly required for effective sound control.\n4. List the characteristics of different sound control materials suitable for use underneath a tiled floor covering.

SUMMARY:AIAWS | Lunch & Learn | Oldcastle APG
DESCRIPTION:Modeling Masonry with BIM\n**Earn 1 HSW/LU**\nBIM is expanding quickly within the construction industry worldwide. However\, the masonry industry has not historically been well represented. Therefore\, there is a need to develop BIM tools for masonry to keep up with the growing requirements for 3D modeling. With that intent\, an Initiative was formed in 2012 specifically to advance BIM for masonry. Recent advancements have made it possible for Revit users design more effectively with masonry. \nRSVP to President@AIAWinstonSalem.org to attend. If you are not a member\, cost of attendance is $15. SUMMARY:AIAWS | Lunch & Learn | Kingspan Insulated Panels
DESCRIPTION:Sustainable Curb Appeal\n** Earn 1 HSW **\nWhether in politics or in building design\, transparency is an increasingly necessary element of modern life. We want to know where a product comes from before proceeding with future-altering decisions. When it comes to our materials\, the resources that make up our built environment\, it’s more important than ever to communicate about what’s inside. \nIn this course\, we will talk about what material health is and what product transparency means. What’s driving this change? USGBC seems to be heading this movement. What’s so different between LEED v3 (2009) and LEED v4 related materials? We will explain what types of reporting tools exist\, what resources project teams have available\, what they are telling us\, and how this is driving innovative market transformation. \nRSVP to President@AIAWinstonSalem.org to attend. SUMMARY:AIAWS | Section Lunch
DESCRIPTION:The Role of Digital Technology in Placemaking\nwith Professor Deb Ryan\, PLA of UNC Charlotte and Richard Petersheim\, PLA of LandDesign \nHow should we consider the use of digital technology when creating an exceptional public realm? To consider that question\, LandDesign partnered with the University of North Carolina\, Charlotte School of Architecture in pursuit of insights and answers. After a research journey through naturally occurring gathering areas to highly manufactured spaces\, Shout Charlotte\, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Central London\, the town gown collaboration resulted in a toolkit designed to inform and guide the process of layering digital technology into placemaking. \nAbout our Speakers\nDeb Ryan\, PLA\nDeb Ryan has a 30-year history of assisting communities and their leaders with urban design\, historic preservation\, downtown revitalization and civic engagement\, and has advised city\, state\, and international organizations on creating vitality at cultural/historic sites and in urban places. She is a professional landscape architect and a Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at the University of North Carolina Charlotte (UNCC)\, a former member of the landscape architecture faculty at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University\, and a Visiting Critic in Historic Preservation at Columbia University. She holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design in Landscape Architecture from North Carolina State University and a Masters in Landscape Architecture from Harvard University. \nRichard Petersheim\, PLA\n \nAs a partner at LandDesign\, Richard plays an integral role in driving LandDesign’s innovative and collaborative culture. Richard directs a passion urban design studio with focus on strategic urban planning\, infill development\, transit planning and station area design\, and retail development. Richard always looks beyond the borders of the project to identify ways in which the improvements to the landscape add value to the adjoining context and reinforce the community goals. \n  \n  \n  \nJoin us at Footnote Cafe in downtown Winston-Salem for an exciting presentation and a great lunch! We’ll see you there. \nRemember — for non-members\, please bring $15 (exact change only).
