SUMMARY:AIAWS | ARE Virtual Roundtable
DESCRIPTION:For many Emerging Professionals on the path to licensure\, the ARE exams can be an imposing obstacle. However\, knowing how to prepare can make a huge difference! For our first exam roundtable\, we will focus on study tools and strategies for the ARE’s. Veronica Grant and Micah Martin are AIAWS board members who have recently become licensed – they will be joining the discussion to share their experiences and answer any questions you might have about the process. We will also review the most recent news from NCARB regarding exam-taking policies and ask for your feedback about how AIA Winston-Salem can best support you on your path to becoming a full-fledged architect.

SUMMARY:AIAWS | October Lunch and Learn
DESCRIPTION:The Cold Hard Truth About What You Are Not Hearing\n\n\n*1 HSW / LU* \nThis seminar will examine the advancement of radiant heat and sound control for today’s construction\, and how it effects the tile and stone industry. Tile and stone have excellent heat conduction qualities\, but not as exceptional for sound abatement. Combining the two can be confusing\, and if not properly addressed. could cause failure in the tile or stone floor. However\, with proper details and specifications\, the combination of in floor heat and sound control could offer a long term\, maintenance free flooring assembly that adds great value to a project. \nLearning Objectives: \n1. Recognize two types of sound control ratings\, Sound Transmission Class (STC) and Impact Insulation Class (IIC).\n2. Distinguish between and IIC rating and a delta IIC contribution.\n3. Identify the components of a floor/ceiling assembly required for effective sound control.\n4. List the characteristics of different sound control materials suitable for use underneath a tiled floor covering.

SUMMARY:AIAWS | Lunch & Learn | Oldcastle APG
DESCRIPTION:Modeling Masonry with BIM\n**Earn 1 HSW/LU**\nBIM is expanding quickly within the construction industry worldwide. However\, the masonry industry has not historically been well represented. Therefore\, there is a need to develop BIM tools for masonry to keep up with the growing requirements for 3D modeling. With that intent\, an Initiative was formed in 2012 specifically to advance BIM for masonry. Recent advancements have made it possible for Revit users design more effectively with masonry. \nRSVP to President@AIAWinstonSalem.org to attend. If you are not a member\, cost of attendance is $15. SUMMARY:AIAWS | Lunch & Learn | Kingspan Insulated Panels
DESCRIPTION:Sustainable Curb Appeal\n** Earn 1 HSW **\nWhether in politics or in building design\, transparency is an increasingly necessary element of modern life. We want to know where a product comes from before proceeding with future-altering decisions. When it comes to our materials\, the resources that make up our built environment\, it’s more important than ever to communicate about what’s inside. \nIn this course\, we will talk about what material health is and what product transparency means. What’s driving this change? USGBC seems to be heading this movement. What’s so different between LEED v3 (2009) and LEED v4 related materials? We will explain what types of reporting tools exist\, what resources project teams have available\, what they are telling us\, and how this is driving innovative market transformation. \nRSVP to President@AIAWinstonSalem.org to attend.
