Girls’ LEGO Day
OUR MISSION
Girls LEGO Day is a hands-on event designed to inspire elementary-aged girls to explore architecture, design, and the built environment through creativity and play.
Hosted by the AIA Winston-Salem, the event brings together young creators and local design professionals for a morning of creative exploration, idea sharing, and hands-on activities. Participants explore the design process, ask questions, and discover how creativity can shape the world around them.
At the heart of Girls LEGO Day is a commitment to introducing girls to design and building related activities at an early age, especially in professions where women remain underrepresented. Today, only about one in four registered architects are women, and events like Girls LEGO Day help create early exposure, encouragement, and connection.
Girls participate in a collaborative LEGO design prompt that encourages imagination, teamwork, and problem solving. The morning also includes story time sessions featuring children’s books focused on architecture and design, followed by open conversation and Q&A with local professionals.
Each participant leaves with design tools and creative resources to continue building and exploring long after the event ends because Girls LEGO Day is not just about building with bricks. It is about sparking curiosity, confidence, and big ideas.
